The students in Ms. Diaz's third grade class celebrated Black History Month by honoring an American Hero, Rosa Parks. First, students completed a KWL chart on what they already know and what they want to learn about Rosa Parks. Then, students listened as the teacher read an interesting article from Readworks, "Civil Rights On A City Bus," where students learned about how Rosa Parks helped changed unlawful segregation laws in the United States. Students then determined Rosa's characteristics and completed a sequencing activity based on the reading. Students began their writing process and published their final draft on how Rosa Parks is an inspiration.
