Ms. Decongelio's Second Grade Class Room 309 read a ReadWorks Article called, "A Day for US Veterans." We discussed the 5 major groups of the United States Armed Forces, what we do as a nation to honor veterans on Veterans Day, and if we know of veterans in our family, friend groups, and in our neighborhood.
Next, we read the story, "Veterans: Heroes in our Neighborhood," by Valerie Pfundstein. In this book it discussed how veterans can be seen all around our neighborhood. They could be the fire fighters, nurses or doctors, crossing guards, and more! We made many connections to people in our local neighborhood who we know and see everyday that are veterans.
Lastly, we finished our lesson with a directed drawing of a Saluting Soldier!
